How to Request a Medication Refill at Two Chairs

If you need a refill on a psychiatry medication between appointments, email support@twochairs.com. Our Psychiatry Operations team will review your request and follow up within one business day.

Please note that psychiatry prescription requests require 3–5 business days' notice (Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–5:30 pm ET). We'll always do our best to accommodate your request, so if you're running low, reach out as soon as you can.

What to include in your message

To avoid delays, please include the following when you reach out:

  • The date you ran out (or expect to run out) of your medication
  • Medication name and dosage (e.g., Sertraline 50mg)
  • How often you take it (e.g., once daily)
  • Your preferred pharmacy name and address

If anything is missing, we'll follow up to ask—but including this info up front helps us move faster.

What if my pharmacy requests a 90-day supply but my provider ordered a smaller quantity?

Whether we can fulfill a 90-day supply depends on where you are in your treatment plan. If your provider is currently adjusting your dose to find the right level for you (titration), prescriptions are typically written for 30 days at a time to ensure your safety and avoid wasted medication if your dose changes. However, we recognize that 90-day fills are often more cost-effective. If receiving a 30-day supply results in a significant price difference for you, please let your provider know—depending on your clinical stability, your provider may be able to authorize a 90-day supply or submit a clinical note to your pharmacy to help manage costs.

We'll confirm your request before sending it

Once we receive your request, our team will confirm the details with you before passing anything along to your provider. You can expect a message from us along the lines of:

"Thanks for reaching out — just want to confirm you're requesting a refill for [medication name and dosage], to be sent to [pharmacy name], with your next appointment on [date]. Does that look right?"

This helps us make sure everything is accurate before anything is sent. If your situation is urgent, please flag that when you reach out — we'll prioritize accordingly.

Why you may need an appointment to get a refill

At Two Chairs, refills are tied to your ongoing care. For most requests, your provider needs to see you before issuing a new prescription. This gives them a chance to check in on how your medication is working and make any adjustments needed.

If you don't have an upcoming appointment, our team will reach out to help you schedule one. Your refill request will then be shared with your provider ahead of your session.

What if I'm about to run out before my appointment?

Let us know as soon as possible. If there's a gap between your current supply and your next session, your provider may approve a short-term bridge refill to keep you covered. The length of a bridge refill depends on your specific medication, your dosage, and whether this is a first prescription or an ongoing refill — so there's no one-size-fits-all answer. Reaching out early gives us the most flexibility to work with your provider on the right option for you.

What if I already have an appointment coming up?

If our team sees you have an upcoming session and your current supply will last until then, your provider will issue the refill directly during your appointment. If you think you'll run out before that, reach out right away so we can look into your options.

What if my pharmacy already has refills on file?

In some cases, your provider has already authorized refills directly with your pharmacy. If that's the situation, you don't need to contact us — just request your next supply directly from your pharmacy.

If you need to switch to a different pharmacy location, reply to your support email with the new pharmacy's name and full address. We can update this for you for non-controlled medications.

Traveling or temporarily in another state?

If you're traveling and need to fill your prescription at a pharmacy in another state, here's what to know before you go.

For non-controlled medications, you're welcome to initiate a transfer to a local pharmacy at your destination, but whether it can be filled depends on that state's requirements and your provider's licensure. Two Chairs providers must be licensed in the state where you're located in order to prescribe there.

For controlled medications, out-of-state fills are generally not possible due to varying state regulations, and transfers are unlikely to be accepted by the receiving pharmacy. The only exception may be when stopping the medication could cause withdrawal — this is handled on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of your psychiatry provider and the pharmacy.

If you have an upcoming trip and are concerned about your medication supply, we recommend reaching out with at least one week's notice, before you leave, so we can help you plan ahead.
