Research shows that continuity and consistency of attendance is one of the best predictors of how effective therapy will be for you. We encourage our clients to attend their weekly sessions on time and as scheduled.
We also understand that life happens, so please communicate with your therapist or with Care Coordination as soon as you may be aware of a conflict.
For Individual Therapy Sessions:
- We allow a maximum of 4 missed sessions (including advanced cancellations and/or no shows) to ensure continuity and consistency in care. After 4 missed appointments during your care with Two Chairs, your therapist will have a conversation with you to discuss your care and find a time slot that might work better for you.
Timeliness
Please be on time for your scheduled appointment. If you are late for your appointment, there may not be sufficient time for a session and it may be canceled or rescheduled.
- Late is defined as 10+ minutes for a matching appointment and 15+ minutes for an individual therapy session.
- If you are running late for a matching appointment, please contact us via email to support@twochairs.com or by phone at (415) 202-5159 (9am - 5pm ET for East Coast clients and 9am-5pm PT for West Coast clients, Monday through Friday).
- If you are running late for your individual session, please contact your therapist directly via email.
Cancellations & Missed Appointments
Cancellations or reschedules are allowed up to 48 hours before the scheduled start time with no fees.
If you cancel or request to reschedule less than 48 hours before your scheduled session, you may be responsible for the full session fee, unless you are able to schedule within the same week.
- Out-of-network clients: you will be responsible for the full session fee.
- In-network clients: you may be responsible for the full session fee depending on your coverage.
If you do not show up for your scheduled session, you will be responsible for the full session fee.

I will be missing more than 4 appointments during the time period due to extended travel. Will I still be able to keep my time slot?
- Your therapist will do what they can to keep your time slot on their panel, but due to other clients' needs, we cannot guarantee that your slot is kept if you are unable to meet physically or virtually during that time period. The further in advance you are able to give notice, the more likely we will be able to schedule around your travel. As soon as you know of your trip, please tell your therapist so you can plan together accordingly.

How do I keep track of how many missed appointments I’ve had?
- Your therapist will let you know when you are getting close to 4 missed sessions.

I have an unpredictable schedule due to work — how should I schedule ongoing therapy appointments with my therapist?
- At the start of care, your therapist will discuss your schedule constraints with you and work to find a time slot that works best. If your schedule changes during your course of care, you and your therapist will work together on a new schedule. The more regularly and frequently you attend, the closer you get to accomplishing your treatment goals.
