What will my first therapy session be like?

We know beginning therapy can bring up a lot of feelings, especially if it’s your first time and you don’t know what to expect. Sessions with your Two Chairs therapist are a safe space to explore what you’re feeling. For your first session, your therapist will guide you through what therapy will look like in a “get-to-know-you” style meeting.

Many aspects of therapy are up to you: Where your virtual session takes place (this should be a safe, secure, private space where your session can take place without interruption), what your goals for therapy are, and what you want to get out of therapy.

For other elements of therapy, your therapist will serve as a guide. For example, discussions about how you can reach your goals, how long you can expect to be in care, and discussing your mental health check-ins.

Together, you and your therapist will create an individualized plan for your care. For more information on what to expect from your first therapy session, visit this blog post
